Inventory posting groups options

Hello , In the Inventory posting groups window u have field product type. It has two options . Item and Product . What is the use of Product ? When u assign the Product for the Inevntory posting group. Please let me know the difference . Thanks and regards

I have two Items A, B.A, B are raw material .
