Hi all,

I'm investigating updating our SQL server 2005 to the latest batch of cumulative updates. Currently we are at SP2 with no updates. I was currently thinking up to update #7 to give #8 some time to settle down.

Does anybody have any experiences, positive or negative, with applying these updates? I'm particularly interested in comptibility & Navision problems with Dynamics NAV 5.0. Anything special to look out for in testing?

thanks, Mark

I'd check in with your partner to have them ask Microsoft if there are any known issues with any particular patches, but in general I think it's OK to apply SQL Server patches as they come out.

MS advises only to implement the hotfixes that you really need.

For Navision that is cummulative HF 4 for SQL2005 SP2. Build number 3200.

Marq:

What is really annoying though is that when you call for support, the first thing they ask is "have you applied all recent patches and updates?"

Also at the moment MS are not planning SP3 for SQL 2005 (from what I have read at least) which for me is counter to their comment 'only apply what you need'. If they are not going to release a final service pack, then what choice is there? I'm also working on the theory there have been so many fixes since SP2 that who knows now many small issues we're experiencing but not aware of.

We've been testing update 8 in our test environment without any issues, so I think we should be Ok.
